Join Dale Watson as he opens his studio doors to the public for this once in a lifetime session experience in Memphis, TN. Watson, who calls his music “Ameripolitan," will record new tracks November 4th in Memphis at the legendary Sam Phillips Recording Studio & you're invited.

Watson’s unique brand of country music ditches polished blandishments for a more raw, hardcore version of honky-tonk, rockabilly & outlaw music. Dubbed "the silver pompadoured, baritone beltin', Lone Star beer drinkin', honky-tonk hellraiser" by The Austin Chronicle, the Alabama-born, Texas-raised Watson may be the hardest working entertainer today, touring more than 300 days a year. Watson stands alongside Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson & George Strait as one of the finest country singer-songwriters anywhere. He recently released a duet album with Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel aptly titled Dale & Ray on Ameripolitan/Home Records. The opening track, “The Ballad of Dale & Ray,” expresses their fondness for Lone Star beer, reefer and Hank Williams even as it radiates the longtime friends’ mutual musical affection. Pull up a stool, it seems to say. Let us sing for you a while.

In 2014 Watson founded the Ameripolitan Music Awards devoted to honoring the Ameripolitan music genre. Funded predominantly by fan supported donations, the awards include 16 different categories, celebrating the best in honky-tonk, outlaw, rockabilly and Texas swing.

One of the most innovative and inspiring figures in the history of American music, Sun Records founder Sam Phillips introduced the world to Johnny Cash, Howlin’ Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Charlie Rich, Rufus Thomas, Ike Turner and many more. With Sun Records and the recording studios he owned, Phillips created a progressive oasis in heavily segregated Memphis where he captured, straightforward, soulful sound that helped develop rock & roll out of a country-blues mix.

After successfully outgrowing his Memphis Recording Service and Sun Studios, Phillips opened his new Sam Phillips Recording Service in 1960. The modern facility features two floors of recording studios, control rooms, mastering rooms and offices, all beneath Phillips' penthouse executive offices. Still owned and maintained by the Phillips family, the studio has hosted an extraordinary list of clients including Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan, The Yardbirds, Johnny Cash, Booker T. Jones, Hank Williams Jr., Kid Rock, Charlie Rich, Robert Plant, Clarence Carter, Scotty Moore, Cowboy Jack Clement, Roy Orbison, Levon Helm and John Prine. Walking through the doors of the studio today is like taking a musical journey back to 1960.  It has remained an analog-focused recording facility and the Phillips family has no plans to change.

Limited to 12 attendees. No previous studio experience necessary.
